The Outer Worlds is a sci-fi RPG developed by Obsidian Entertainment announced at the 2018 Game Awards for the PC, Xbox One, and PS4 in 2019. The game takes place on the last frontier of space, as corporate interests encroach on that frontier. It is pitched as coming from "the original developers" of Fallout and with a style similar to Fallout: New Vegas, another Obsidian-developed RPG.
Originally annouced as coming first to Steam and the Microsoft Store on PC, in March 2019 Obsidian revealed that the game will initally release on the Epic Store and Microsoft Store on PC exclusively for a year before appearing on other PC storefronts. This announcement did not affect the console release plans.
